Leadership Development, Training and Facilitation Skills

THE PROGRAMME

The main aim of the training courses is to enhance and improve conceptual and practical understanding of the participants towards facilitation, training and leadership development. The courses will help in enhancing conceptual and practical knowledge and skills of participants in participatory leadership and facilitation processes. Following programmes will be organised:

Feb. 14 – 16: Basic Facilitator Training
Feb. 17 – 18: Leadership in Organisations
Feb. 21 – 23: Training on Trainers Module

TRAINING DETAILS

Feb. 14 – 16: Basic Facilitator Training

The core content of the course is based on the Technology of Participation (ToP), which include tools and techniques on facilitation to use individual's ideas and capacities in order to come to better group results. They consist of different methods for creating shared awareness, shared decisions and shared action in groups. This three day long course consists of focused conversation method, consensus workshop method, dynamics of group decision making, and action planning.

Feb. 17 – 18: Leadership in Organisations
The core content of the course includes work with mental models, effective interchange and dialogue. The aim of the course is to impart knowledge and skills on recent trends on leadership development while introducing and practicing tools such as style flexing, delegation, conflict management, leadership style etc. The course is expected to open a new dimension to leadership in organizational development.

Feb. 21 – 23: Basic Training of Trainers:
Image Change and Applying Facilitation in Training
The course includes content such as client needs and role, practice and imagine and design and evaluation. The main aim of the course is to develop the participant as a capable trainer who can conduct training in his/her respective field effectively. This training addresses issues with regard to designing and delivering high quality, effective training using facilitative style and practices. It deals with different types of adult learning how to adapt different training methodologies that suit them, giving constructive feedback to participants, group processes, etc.

METHODOLOGY
The training and facilitation approaches applied in these courses are unique which help in meeting the challenges of building leadership and organizational effectiveness through releasing individual potential. Full participatory approach with a good mixture of adult learning method will be adopted for the training. Session will be conducted in an informal way to create openness and friendly environment among the participants. Lecture method will be discouraged as far as possible and emphasis will be given to group discussion, games, role play etc.

WHO CAN PARTICIPATE?
All training courses are open for anyone interested. Since the programme will be conducted in English, the participants should be able to understand English language. The participant may join one or all the programmes. A maximum of 40 for basic facilitation, 30 participants for leadership and 20 for trainers' training. Those in the Trainers training are expected to have some experiences in training of facilitation or have participated in the other courses.

LANGUAGE
The language of the courses will be English with some Nepali interpretation if required.

Any standard hotel in Kathmandu. We will inform very soon: 8.30 AM – 5:30 PM

REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Feb. 10, 2007
Registration will be based on the first come first basis.

COURSES FEES
Basic Facilitator Training: Rs. 10 000
Leadership in Organisations: Rs. 10 000
Training on Trainers Module: Rs. 10 000.

Those who wish to attend all the courses may pay just Rs. 20 000. Those who want to attend two courses may get 15 % reduction on fees.

For international participants, the training fee is US $ 600 which includes local accommodation and food and local transportation from Feb. 13 to 24, local sight seeing, training participation etc. Expatriates working in Nepal will be considered as the local participants.

FACULTY PROFILE
The courses will be facilitated by a group of 8 internationally recognised facilitators from USA and Taiwan with in-depth experience of working in Asian countries as follows:

Lawrence Philbrook, Certified Professional Facilitator (CPF) has been designing processes for teams and leaders in varied cultural settings for over twenty years. He has been the Dean if ICA Taiwan Facilitator Certification programme since 2000 and conducts facilitation training across the world both as in-house and public programmes. His key skills are in design and facilitation of processes which recover a sense of respect and trust as a basis for establishing organisations that can learn and change. His clients have included more than 50 multinational organizations as well as local companies and government organizations.

Laura Hsu, CPF is also an assessor for the IAF CPF programme. She specializes in facilitating breakthrough to desired change in individuals and organizations. She is certified as a ToP trainer and in Appreciative Inquiry. She specializes on Technology of Participation, Open Space, Appreciative Inquiry, Graphic Facilitation etc. She is the Managing Director of Open Quest Facilitation Technology.

Jorie Wu, CPF and is an assessor of IAF CPF programme. She is also an ICA certified group facilitator and ToP methods trainer, open space technology, story telling, team building, effective communication, public speaking, leadership development etc.

Jessie Hsiao has both local and Asia Pacific regional project-based managerial experience in human resources and financial accounting with several multi-national companies. She has expertise on leadership and individual development, executive coaching, group facilitation, mediation etc. She has worked with global clients in industries of telecommunications, pharmaceuticals, machinery, postal union and non-profit organizations.

Vivien Pau, ICA Certified Facilitator, Certified Action Learning Coach and Trainer, is the founder and Director of VP Worldwide Ltd. She has over 29 years of management, marketing, coaching and training experience across a broad range of industries including e-commerce, market research and retail banking. She was with AC Nielsen, the world's largest market research company as the Managing Director on Hong Kong and China. Vivian has coached and facilitated for a number of multinational companies. Her areas of capabilities include design and delivery of development programmes on leadership, strategic planning, organisational transformation, leading and embracing change, leader-coach-manager etc.

Shawn Chung, is the member of the Open Quest Facilitation Team, devoting himself to facilitation work focusing on development of group processes for different purposes to help organizational change and personal development. He is also an ICA certified group facilitator and ToP methods trainer. He has worked for private corporations and non-profit organizations, government and educational units.

Evelyn K. Philbrook, joined ICA in 1972 and worked in several countries for ICA and other national and multinational organisations. She has worked extensively in community development and facilitation in Africa, Asia and the US. She is a professional facilitator and has conducted facilitation workshop globally.

Neesha Wolf, a US citizen working in Taiwan with an aim to contribute to organizations all over the world through facilitation and coaching.

ABOUT ORGANISERS

ICA NEPAL

ICA-Nepal is part of a world-wide network of the Institute of Cultural Affairs established around the world. The Institute of Cultural Affairs has worked for 40 years in more than 35 countries all over the world, building human capacities through participatory training and facilitation activities and setting up community development programmes. In Nepal ICA was established in 1998 and since then ICA-Nepal has grown rapidly focussing on training and facilitation and community development activities. ICA runs several Community Development Programmes, organises public and in-house training courses and also offer facilitation services to companies, NGOs, government offices, INGOs and other institutions.

FACILITATORS' ASSOCIATION OF NEPAL (FAN)
Facilitators' Association of Nepal is a very young organization established by a group of experienced facilitators in late 2006. It is dedicated to enhance the capacity of facilitators in Nepal through sharing experiences and conducting innovative programmes. FAN is the national chapter of International Association of Facilitators (IAF) which has its main secretariat in USA with national and regional chapters around the world.

ROTARY CLUB OF RUDRAMATI
Rotary Club of Rudramati was established in 2003 by a group of professionals with different background such as educationists, doctors, engineers, administrators, industrialists, environmentalists, social activists and community leaders. The club has organized a series of activities in various parts of the country. Rotary emphasizes on leadership development for transformation of the country. Some of the proceedings will be contributed to the charity of projects conducted by RC Rudramati.
